Skymedical organized yet another webinar, this time dedicated to total knee replacement. The session was coordinated by Dr. Luís Amaral and had a wide panel of experts.
Total knee prosthesis is a surgical intervention where the worn articular surfaces of the femur, tibia and often the kneecap — all sources of disabling pain — are replaced for high-density polyethylene and metal. This intervention was performed for the 1st time in 1968 and, from then on, several improvements in surgical techniques and materials have greatly increased its degree of efficiency. Nowadays, TJPs are one of the most successful surgical procedures in the medical field.
The webinar set the stage for a 2 hour discussion about a PTJ where many and different perspectives and technical techniques from multiple specialties were approached. The panel of speakers was composed by several experts in the area, namely, Dr. André Costa (Vila Nova de Gaia Hospital Center), Dr. Francisco Silva (Entre o Douro e Vouga Hospital Center), Dr. José Dias (University and Hospital Center of Coimbra), Dr. José Gomes (Tondela Hospital Center – Viseu), Dr. José Martins (Lusíadas Cascais), Dr. Pedro Marques (Coimbra University and Hospital Center), Dr. Renato Soares (Divino Espírito Hospital Holy).
