On July 7, 2022, at Cova da Beira University Hospital Center (CHUCB), two unprecedented surgeries were performed by the Orthopedics Service for the treatment of hip pathology in young adults.
Following the Surgeon to Surgeon action between Dr. André Pinto and the team of Orthopedists (Dr. Pedro Simas, Dr. João Sarmento Esteves, Dr. David Pinto and Dr. Miguel Pádua Figueiredo), surgeons with extensive experience in performing this procedure, it was now time for Dr. Pedro Simas and Dr. João Sarmento Esteves to come to CHUCB. They collaborated with Dr. André Pinto in performing the first cases of hip arthroscopy in this hospital unit, using the “Pivot Guardian” traction table, the first traction system on the market for hip arthroscopy without a pole, designed to avoid complications related to its use during this procedure.
These will be the first of many cases of this minimally invasive technique to be performed by the Orthopedics Service of this Technical Hospital Unit led by Dr. António Figueiredo, which will allow a more differentiated care to the entire region.
